January – Snow Drops: A Novel by A.D. Miller
An intense psychological drama. Witnessing the progression of regional corruption in his work as a British lawyer in early 2000s Moscow, Nick Platt rescues two sisters from a purse snatcher and pursues a glamorous romantic relationship with one of the sisters before he is asked to help with a dubious family endeavor.
February – Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand
On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean. So began one of the most extraordinary odysseys of the Second World War. Unbroken is a testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit. Hillenbrand also wrote Seabiscuit.
March – Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon
George Hall is convinced that the eczema on his thigh is cancer and is unable to deal with his daughter’s wedding, his wife’s affair, and his son’s homosexuality. The author’s second novel, following The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
